As probable hurricane lan approached Florida's coast late Sunday, tropical storm and storm surge watches were issued.

The storm is expected to become a hurricane Monday and a major hurricane Tuesday.

It could hit Florida's southwest and western shores Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jamie Rhome, acting director of the National Storm Center, said lan will be a major and powerful hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
