Lan's Intensification Prompts Florida Storm Watches. 

As probable hurricane lan approached Florida's coast late Sunday, tropical storm and storm surge watches were issued. 

lan was a tropical storm with 65 mph winds in the Caribbean Sea at 11 p.nm. 

ET, but it "continues to build" and is expected to become a hurricane Monday.   

The storm is expected to become a hurricane Monday and a major hurricane Tuesday. 

It could hit Florida's southwest and western shores Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Fort Myers and part of Florida's coast are under a tropical storm watch. also issued storm surge watches 

Jamie Rhome, acting director of the National Storm Center, said lan will be a major and powerful hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
