THE FIRST TEST OF A NASA PLANETARY DEFENCE SYSTEM

The first test of a NASA planetary defence system saw the DART spacecraft smashh into an asteroid with 100% success.

On Monday, NASA accomplished a major goal by crashing a spaceship into an asteroid. .

Proving the viability of the agency's strategy in the event that a potentially catastrophic asteroid ever threatened Earth.

Nearly 7 million miles from Earth, the 1,260-pound Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft slammed with the 520-foot long

1l billion-pound asteroid Dimorphos at a speed of 14,000 miles per hour.

At impact, the spacecraft was just approximately 55 feet from the asteroid's exact core.

A TERRIBLE ENCOUNTER IN THE DEEP WATERS
